Although it has already half a decade since the first cinema is made in Nepal, still Nepalese cinema lacks cinema that deals with unique character of the country and generates intellectual discourse. The Nepali society has been left with no choice but to go to cinema to watch same line of cinema in the name of entertainment. As the people are left with no alternative to choose among diverse culture of cinema, their understanding about cinema has not been developed as well.
During last few years there has been more than a dozen film festival being organised in Nepal aiming to introduce Nepalese audience with different forms of cinema and cinema culture around the world. The festivals have been helpful to develop cinema literacy among cinema audience in Nepal but those festivals lack discourse about ideological and cultural concerns of society as well as rebellion thoughts.
Hence, to fulfill the gap somewhat, International Film Festival of Nepal(IFFON), 2017 is planned to be organised.
